Update on Fire Truck Progress

February 12, 2008 - Inside Cab has been painted, all outside appliance mounts have been repainted. In short, most all cosmetic items have been, or getting close, accomplished. I am certain we can find more to touch up as time and energy find. It took a great deal of paint thus far. Also, new rubber around doors and headliner were installed. The seat has been re-upholstered with donation money and looks very good. Joe Smith and the C-Crew guys at Station #6 are accomplishing more wire replacement as time allows. We are needing another light switch which should not be a problem with our current resources. (Project Expense Report to date...)

UPDATE: Brake System Completed

January 2, 2007 - We seem to have finally mastered the brake system on the truck. A big thanks goes to Neil Reese, Steve Duren, and the rest of the guys on A-crew at Station #6 for their help and support on this tremendous task. This was a big ticket item and the most time consuming of the projects thus far. The new parts totaled over $350.00 for this single repair.

Also, thanks are extended to Ronnie Davenport for researching and locating the new master cylinder and Joe Smith for replacing some wiring thus far (more to do). Tim McDermott has been doing some research on how to title and insure the vehicle for parades and displays.

Since the main priority was to get the truck running and brakes working, a task which has been accomplished, it is probably a good time to call for a meeting of all the committee members still interested in the project to convene and evaluate the truck. It is the suggestion that we meet and prioritize what we need to do next to make sure it is mechanically ready for any use such as parades and displays.

What we have is a piece of history and an additional way to make ourselves more visible to the public, not only as firefighters but as a union. Thanks again to our administration for allowing us to have a place to get this project going. (Project Expense Report...) (Photo Album...)

Update on Truck Restoration

December 3, 2007 - As we get the truck back on level ground with its rebuilt brakes there will be a time that we will have a committee meeting to assess the continuation of the project, such as some cosmetic things, a good wax and buff job, paint touch up ( tailboards, sideboards,) radiator flush, oil and filter change, etc. We'll also need to see what cost(s) are involved in restoring the interior of the vehicle.

Also to be addressed are the title, registration, and insurance issues. It is believed the only members from the Clown Society (as recorded title holders) that remain are Dana Cramer and Tim Terrel. Little doubt a problem with a transfer of title to the union at this point.

Work on Truck Begins

November 30, 2007 - The committee of workers, currently assigned to Fire Station #6, have been working hard to restore this piece of equipment to prideful order. The hope is for our members, those of us as part of the Norman Fire Department and members of the IAFF Local 2067, to make use of its historical value at various functions within the community in better enhancing our presence in Norman as both a department and as a Union.

Thanks extend to all the guys at Station #6 for your work thus far, our Union membership for its monetary donations, and to our Fire Chief and Deputy Chief for allowing us the leeway to work on this unit at the Fire Station. We also would like to thank those in the community that have donated both experience and money to the project; in particular - Warren McKinsey at Palace Auto Supply who happens also to be a retired Norman Firefighter.
