Union Meeting
January 17th - January 18th, 2006 Union Meeting
This scheduled two-shift Union Meeting was held on January 17th & January 18th, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Mid-Town Plaza, 330 West Gray Street, Lower level, conference room. Winner of $75 Door Prize was Mike Jones. The door prize returns to $25.00 next meeting.
As most of you are aware your IAFF Insurance Committee Representatives, Leroy Lukinbill and I have been participating in monthly meetings concerning the Health Insurance issues facing us now and in the near future. There have been many recommendations and suggestions made and discussed over the last 18 months within the Committee. I have passed this information on to the Union members through Union Meetings, Bulletin Boards, and the Union Web site as well as around the stations. There are various options we have that must be shared with the membership so that we may receive the appropriate input to allow us to make our recommendations to the Health Insurance Committee and the City of Norman. These recommendations could possibly affect all of our Health Insurance in the near future and in the long term. As we all know Health Insurance is the single largest benefit issue that we have had to deal with over the past few years. We must continue to be proactive and involved if we are to retain what we have enjoyed for many years.
Health Insurance has been one of the frontline issues of almost every IAFF local in this country as well as in the private sector. Health Insurance cost continue to rise every year at a much higher rate than salaries, with this in mind we must start looking at innovative ideas that will help us better control the cost while maintaining the greatest benefits possible. Your Union Representatives have fought and won many battles over the last few years to maintain the greatest benefits possible for their membership. To continue to represent the mandate of the membership regarding OUR Health Insurance Program we are asking for your input. The only agenda item that we will have on the January 17th and 18th two shift Union Meetings is Health Insurance. We will have to make some recommendations soon to the City so please take this time to come and listen to the information you will be provided so that you can provide your Union Officials and your Insurance Committee representatives the guidance they need to prepare the IAFF's Health Insurance Recommendations. Thank you for your attention to this and we hope to see you on the 17th or 18th at the Union Hall.
